Contact a school district's nurse to learn more about the fund and to be referred to apply for assistance. County children, up to 19 years old, may be eligible once a year for up to $250 in assistance for a variety of expenses including:
Medical equipment not covered by health insurance.
Travel expenses for out-of-town medical care.
Prescription medications not covered by insurance including co-pays.
Dental expenses not covered by dental insurance.
Other expenses approved by the advisory committee.

The fund will not cover expenses related to vision, orthodontia or office visit co-pays.

SHICK offers one-on-one, non-biased counseling and assistance to individuals and families either getting ready to sign up for Medicare, or those who already have Medicare. Volunteer counselors receive training on Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Long-Term Care Insurance, and other health insurance issues that concern Kansans. SHICK counselors are not affiliated with the insurance industry. If you are new to Medicare or have questions about Medicare or Medicare related issues, SHICK counselors are available Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. for one-on-one appointments.
